When To Schedule Your First Visit

American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child should establish a dental home by 12 months of age or 6 months after the first tooth erupts. During your child’s first visit, we will:

  • address any concerns you may have regarding your child’s oral health
  • examine your child’s mouth for any signs of decay or other conditions
  • discuss your child’s current brushing routine and diet
  • discuss your child’s habit (thumb sucking, pacifier use, grinding)
  • provide individualized plans to reduce the risk of cavities
  • discuss what to expect in near future (dental development, anticipating and planning for possible injuries to the mouth)

Child who has a dental home and receives periodic supervision is less likely to require emergency dental care. Getting your child familiarized with a dental office setting earlier will also help your child develop a positive attitude toward dental care.
