Nerve Treatment
If a cavity is not detected and treated in a timely manner, it can progress deeper into the center of the tooth where nerve is located. When it is suspected that the nerve is affected by a deep cavity, affected portion of the nerve is cleaned out in a process called pulpotomy.
Pulpotomy ensures that the potential cause of infection is removed so that the tooth can stay in the child’s mouth until the permanent tooth is ready to push it out.
Stainless steel crowns are recommended after pulpotomy to prevent possible contamination of remaining healthy nerve.
